asce-uprm-logo-flag_orig.png
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is a national network of civil engineers that was founded in 1852. It is the oldest professional engineering society in the United States. The student chapter at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM), installed in 1949, has over 150 active members, making it one of the largest student chapters in Puerto Rico. ASCE – UPRM allows students to become successful professionals by providing valuable development opportunities and functions as a link between students and professionals.

Throughout the past few years, I have been actively involved in the ASCE-UPRM student chapter. I have attended many workshops, seminars, activities, been a member of different committees, participated in conferences, and held positions at the directive board.
President
May 2019 - May 2020
As chapter President, I was in charge of leading meetings of the Directive Board, scheduling workshops, activities, seminars, and keeping track of the Service and Outreach Committees.

With the Vice-President and External Affairs Manager, organized the annual ASCE's Companies Night. An event in which many civil engineering and surveying companies, as well as universities, come to recruit prospective students for internships, co-ops, and full-time job opportunities. A total of 16 companies and 82 students participated in the event.

With the chapter's Project Manager, we coordinated and overviewed the progress of the 2020 Competition Team. We registered all the participants, allocated sponsorship funds organized travel accommodations, and created schedules for each team. This was key for the chapter to achieve 1st Place Overall (third year in a row) at the ASCE Southeast Student Conference at the University of Central Florida.
Documents Manager
May 2017 - May 2019
As Documents Manager, I was in charge of creating minutes, organizing the chapter's calendar, and all the correspondence.

One of the main tasks was creating the chapter's 2017 and 2018 Annual Report. This report consists of a compilation of records of all the activities, seminars, and workshops held, as well as financial, membership, and statistical information. Based on the information provided the chapters are ranked. For the 2018 Annual Report, the chapter received an Honorable Mention. This recognition meant that the chapter ranked top third among all the student chapters.
Service Committee
August 2016 - 2021
In my freshman year, I became a member of the Service Committee. As future civil engineers, it is important to connect with communities in need and see how can we lend a helping hand. The committee's purpose is for students to develop a sense of responsibility towards their community and helping by incorporating solutions through civil engineering. As a member I have participated and organized many food drives, beach clean-ups, outreach activities for kids, and many more activities.
